SecureBio is a biosecurity nonprofit dedicated to protecting society from catastrophic biological risks. They collaborate with leading experts across academia, industry, and government to develop novel technologies and forward-thinking policy proposals to delay, detect, and defend against the most dangerous biological agents, both natural and engineered. Their key initiatives include:
- The Nucleic Acid Observatory project, which aims to pioneer widespread, pathogen-agnostic, untargeted metagenomic sequencing to provide reliable early warning of biological threats.
- The Secure DNA project, which is a global team of academic life scientists, cryptographers, and policy analysts working to develop an automated freely available DNA screening system capable of secure and universal DNA synthesis.
- The AIxBio team, which builds measurement tools to assess the potential for AI systems to contribute to global catastrophic biological risks, as well as mitigation strategies that can reduce risks once AI capabilities cross specific risk thresholds.
